Not having been a fan of Hollywood beefcake Ben Affleck prior to his feature film directorial debut Gone Baby Gone, I wasn't certain what to expect from The Town, his second feature as director, and a film in which he is also the lead actor. Much to my surprise however, I was in for a relatively pleasant viewing experience.
Proving that Gone Baby Gone wasn't a fluke was always going to be Affleck's number one challenge as director, and the man has pulled this challenge off in style. The Town is an engrossing and thrillingly tense crime drama based around the dysfunctional family lives and relationships of career criminals lost in a world of drugs and violence.

In short, the film is about trailer trash bank robbers, the women who love them and a couple of determined FBI agents trying to bring them down. And there are enough action sequences, complete with a fairly decent car chase scene, to keep the guys entertained too.
