Although founder Martin Abramowitz said the sets proved popular and sparked a national dialogue on the subject, production costs precluded any desire to continue. Abramowitz also said the issue was covered with the first six sets.
"We remained true to our word to the purchasers of the original set in 2005 that they were buying the complete set with all [Jewish] players in history," he said. "The response was wonderful -- a sold-out product and a national dialogue on the subject, leading to two Cooperstown seminars."
Commissioner Gets a Card
The 2010 set includes 29 player cards plus career leaders, a decade-leader stat card, and special cards saluting Commissioner Alan H. (Bud) Selig and three directors of the Major League Baseball Players Association, from founder Marvin Miller to successors Donald Fehr and Michael Wehner. All are Jewish, along with Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson, who also has a card in the latest set.
